1. What is tabletop wargaming? 
Tabletop wargaming is a hobby that combines strategic gameplay, storytelling, and creativity. Players use miniature models to represent armies or forces and play on detailed terrain boards, competing in scenarios or campaigns with dice-based mechanics.

2. Do I need experience to join?
 Not at all! We welcome everyone, from complete beginners to seasoned veterans. If you’re new to wargaming, we’re happy to guide you through the basics, help you build your first army, and get you started in your first game.

3. What kinds of games do you play?
 We focus on a variety of narrative-driven wargames using the beginner-friendly One Page Rules (OPR) system. You can learn more about OPR HERE. Most of our members also play Warhammer 40K. If you are interested in joining a Competitive 40K group, we recommend checking out Red Bluff Battle Reports.

4. Do I need to bring my own models or terrain? 
If you have models, feel free to bring them! But if you’re just starting out or want to try a new game, we have armies newcomers can use in demo games and in our events. The Chico Wargaming Society provides tables, terrain, dice, and tape measures at our events.

5. Where and when do you meet?
 Our members play regularly at Heroes Corner (a great local business to purchase models from) as well as at local restaurants and coffee shops with space to accommodate wargaming. We frequently play at Round Table Pizza on Forest Avenue and Day Camp Coffee in Meriam Park on weekends.

6. Is there a cost to participate?
 You can join our email list and request to play a demo game for free. Chico Wargaming Society events have an entry fee to cover costs like venue rental, food, or prizes. Our members pay an annual fee for access to our Discord server and priority registration for CWS events.

7. Can I join even if I don’t know how to paint miniatures?
 Absolutely! While painting is a fun part of the hobby, it’s not a requirement to play. We also host painting meet ups and workshops to help you improve your painting skills.
